Happy Mother's Day - A Tribute to my Mom

Thank you, Mom.  I can never truly thank you enough for all you do... thus is the job of being a mom.  You are the BEST.  I love you!

Quotes to share for Mothers Day.... from Win at The Woman in The Glass Box

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts.  A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.  ~Sophia Loren

Who ran to help me when I fell,
And would some pretty story tell,
Or kiss the place to make it well?
My mother.
~Ann Taylor

Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.  ~Aristotle

Women know
The way to rear up children (to be just)
They know a simple, merry, tender knack
Of tying sashes, fitting baby shoes,
And stringing pretty words that make no sense,
And kissing full sense into empty words.
~Elizabeth Barrett Browning

God could not be everywhere, so he created mothers.
 ~Jewish Proverb

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

What a game Fuzzy's team had today!

It was very close until the bottom of the 5th inning when one of Fuzzy's team mates hit a three run homer out of the field!  Woohoo!!!

We led 5-7, going into the sixth and final inning, and we were the home team!  The same boy who hit the homer was pitching... poor thing!  Talk about having to keep your cool!

But, he did a great job and got the 3 outs in 4 batters... he walked the third batter; I think he got nervous... and we won the game!

So far our team only lost the first game they played, and has won the last 4 in a row!  YAY!

We just came back from our Mother's Day dinner out at the Longhorn Steakhouse.  It was an excellent dinner!  Tomorrow, we will have a nice quiet day at home.

Someone asked me in comments how everyone liked Spidey 3.  Hubby and Pumpkin thought it was great and the special effects were better than the first two.  Fuzzy and Hammer thought it was the best of the three movies so far, full of action and excitement.  I will let you know when the DVD comes out!

Thank you for all your kind words and support about going to the neurosurgeon!  If only the dreams about power tools and shavers to the head would stop - I would be fine!  LOL

I will get through it... lol

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's in my life and in J-land... enjoy the day... you all deserve it.

be well,
Dawn

Communication Breakdown

I got this cartoon in an email this week, and laughed my butt off.... at myself!!

Aaaaah yes, the tears, the tears, they're a flowin... (to the tune of 'Danny Boy')  (( scary, aren't I?))

I don't know why, but as this appointment with the neurosurgeon approaches, I am losing it more and more.  I am getting more anxious, more 'in my head', which considering that is where they want to drill, probably isn't a good idea.

(cue the comedic drums)  Ba-da-bum... ting!

In order to melt my mind, I have been playing Jewel Miner.  I haven't been able to read much... which is annoying to me, but I am having a focusing problem.

Isn't the color of this text awful?  It matched the cartoon... I do try to coordinate!

Okay, there has been this meme thingy going around where you tell 7 Things about yourself that no one knows.  I do so many meme-ish things, I figure you all know everything already, but I do like a challenge and I need to keep my mind busy.

7 Things You Do Not Know About Me

1.     Although, you all know I am a bit of an insomniac, you don't know that I have been this way since childhood.  Yep.  Somewhere right around age 8, it started.  I would have an awful time falling asleep.  Even in the perfect temp, with perfectly proper bed sheets, etc... It would take me hours.  Many a night I pretended to be asleep when my parents checked on me at 11pm when they came upstairs to go to bed.

2.     The toilet paper has to come over the top.  Everyone here just knows to do it.  If I go to your house and you have it the other way, I will switch it.  Yes, I know... issues.  feh... I could be worse...  lol

3.     I hate black ink pens.  I will only use medium point, blue ink.  Or other colors for fun, occasionally.  You can always tell an original at first glance when done in blue ink.

4.     I passed the test to join Mensa in 1983, but then found out that you had to pay to become a member.  The nearest chapter to me then was in NYC, and I couldn't afford it so didn't join.

5.      I can still remember my high school locker combination, 32-24-0, yet routinely will dream that I cannot remember it, and cannot get into my locker!  It is a recurrent dream I have when stressed.  I also will dream of being in high school and that I cannot find my way to my class or I lose my schedule... strange, I know.

6.     I really like to gamble.  I love roulette, slots, the wheel, Blackjack, poker games... all of it.  I would love to enter a Texas Hold 'Em tourney someday!   At 16 on a trip to Atlantic City with my parents, I was sitting and playing at a blackjack table for 2 hours, was served 2 free drinks, and walked away a winner!  lol

7.     I used my exeptionally good cleavage twice to get my friends and myself into very picky NYC night clubs, and out of the cold standing in line.  Yes, cleavage, long blond 80's hair and blue eyes, will get you through the velvet rope!  The first time was at the Limelight (it was a church converted into a club, very cool) for my 19th birthday.  I became legal in NYC on that day, back then in 1984.  The second time was at Studio 54 before it shut its doors for good.  Men...  @@

Okay... that is that!  It took me a half hour to think of things I had not previously put in this blog!  :-D

If you haven't played this one... you should!

be well,
Dawn

Thank God It's Friday!

TGIF!  Hubby took our kids and 2 spares to see Spidey 3!  My parents went to visit a friend, and I am alone in the house!

My mom took Hammer, Hubby and myself out for a nice lunch earlier today, too!  It is a great Friday for all!

The kids are sooooooo happy to be going to the movie!  Sure, they will eat too much candy and popcorn and drink too much soda, but it is all part of the movie going experience!

Fuzzy got his pneumonia shot yesterday!  (And our pediatrician looks wayyyy nicer than that!)  He was fine for the actual injection, but he reacts to everything like me, so this morning, you would think the boy had his arm amputated!  LOL

He and his buddies have another school fun night, sponsored by our town's drug free program!  They will have ping pong, bingo, bowling and other games for the kids.  They really do a nice job!

Pumpkin had a double ear infection, but is feeling much better after two doses of antibiotics and did make school today.

Libby's vet appointment was good.  She has a growth that needs to be removed, but he did do a biopsy and it was benign so we don't have to rush.  Good thing, as it will cost a HECK of a lot of money to do it.  UGH.

Me first, then the dog... lol.  Monday is still the neurosurgeon appointment.  The office manager got involved and they have been really great with Hubby and trying to accomodate us and understand the $$ issue.  HSS, the NYC hospital, is even giving the doc's office a hard time.... but they assured us that it will all work out and not to worry.

Easier said than done, of course.

Fuzzy has a morning baseballgame tomorrow, yay!  I am looking forward to cheering them on, they are playing so well this year!

Tomorrow night we are going out to dinner with my parents to celebrate Mother's Day.  Sunday we will spend quiet at home, my choice.  The kids and my dad will make me my favorite french toast for breakfast.  Yummy!

Can you believe it is the middle of May already... wow... time flies... fun or no fun!  LOL

be well,
Dawn

Who are You?

Since when I do a meme/questionnaire you will be discovering things about me that you didn't know, I thought these graphics, and my song choice for the title really fit!  (plus I love all the CSI shows, and love books about forensics, too!)

MEME QUESTIONS FROM CIN and Julie at Coelha Thoughts .

What were you doing at midnight last night? I was watching the end of  'Deadliest Catch' that we tivo'd from Discovery Channel.  It was the end of the October Bering Sea season of fishing for the Alaskan King Crab.  Next week the show switches to the Opelio Crab, fished in January in the Bering Sea.  Amazing and scary.

Do you go to church? At Christmas for my parents, more than for anything else. Which is not to say that I do not believe in God, or do not consider myself Christian or a believer, I do; but I am disillusioned with structured man-made religion, at this point in my life.

What did you eat for breakfast this morning? Nothing, just coffee.

Who is your Mature (Older Man/Woman) Crush: LOL  I have to say that Mark Harmon of NCIS is still pretty hot, and he is older than me... but not by much I don't think!  LOL

Are you for world peace: Who the hell would say "No" to this?  ( I live Cin's answer unedited.... I mean really.)

Have you ever been involved with the police? Listened to them a lot in the 80's (ha), almost kinda dated one, and I am friendly with some in our town.

Have you ordered anything by mail in the past week? Books and coffee.  Most recent book was for Fuzzy, and coffee for my mom and I, mostly although, my dad, Hubby and sometimes Hammer, do partake of the sacred bean!

What did you want "to be" when you were a child? Too many things, but the short list is a doctor and a physicist.

How would you go about purifying your own soul? Ha.  I think my soul is pure.  I live my life doing my best to be a good person, not to hurt others or the planet, and to do the very best I can for my kids, Hubby, parents, family and friends.  I know I cannot change the world alone, but if I can send some positive ripples out through the love I have and the lives I can touch, than I am doing all right.

If you had to guess two people at work were having an affair, which two would pair up? Why? [please don't give full names] I don't do 'traditional' work anymore!  I am proud to be a stay at home mom, homeschooling one and enriching the two others and giving everything I have to that.  Then there is Hubby, I do try to give him something...lol.  As for my parents, well, they are giving me much more than I could ever give them, as usual.  And, I am controlled by a food driven yellow lab and two snarky cats.  The hamster is the least demanding 'being' in the house!

Oh all right, I got off track... I think Libby and Tina may have something going on....

Take the third letter of your name and tell 5 things you have in the house that begin with that letter.  W.  Wedding portrait (hung in the living room), wash to be done in the washing machine, World Trade Center souveniers bought in the store on the Concourse level in between the towers, watches (all of mine with dead batteries), and wine.

That was fun... leave me a comment if you decide to play along!

be well,
Dawn

Thankful Thursday

It is Thursday, and thanks to Gretchen at Living in Savannah 2, I am remembering to feel thankful for the following things...

1.     My kids.  Even though they just acted like barely civilized chimps while eating lunch, they make me laugh... I love them so much.  They are what keeps me pushing on.

2.     My parents.  Their help, support, and love, is giving me strength and getting me through these latest health crisises.  No matter what your age, sometimes, you just want a hug from Mom!

3.     My Hubby.  He has been being my rock, dealing with all the technical issues that I don't want to deal with (read: doc appointment difficulties, etc.), and my moods.  And, believe me, the last one may be the most difficult.  Last night, I was crying over him calling while I was trying to get the kids into bed.  I don't usually do the 'bedtime routine', but Hubby was out at a meeting.

(Yes, I know they are aged 10-12-14, but at bedtime they suddenly digress into 2-4-6 and we have to herd them like greased pigs, through teeth brushing, medicine taking, getting jammies, and into bed.)

Fuzzy just made me a coffee, bless his fuzzy head!

4.     K and K.  Kathy and Karol.  Thank you.  You are both great moms to your own boys, fabulous aunts to my kids, and wonderful support to me.  Even if we don't speak on the phone, and communicate only through emails, I feel the love... the kindness... the caring.

5.     Coffee.  Yes, here it is, back on the list in its own special spot.  Elixir of the gods, manna from heaven.  Bless the natives who came up with the idea of pouring hot water over crushed beans.  Today, with the rain we had, and the weather change, I am sore and tired, but the coffee it putting some zip in my step!

6.     Libby, the yellow lab, Pumpkin and Tina, the cats.  They provide their own style of comfort and support and distraction from all the crazy stress the world is giving right now!

Libby goes for two of her favorite things today, a car ride and to see the vet!  Oh yes, she loves them!  All the office help, the tech's, the docs... she licks and kisses and plays with them all.  :-D   She is such a happy dog!!!

I am leaving with the kids for the pediatrician's soon.  Forms to be signed, ears and throat and cough to be checked, and a pneumonia vaccine shot to be given!

Then, back here, pick up Libby, drop off kids, and out to the vet's office!

be well,
Dawn

The Tide is High

Nothing is going as smoothly this week as I had hoped.

Pumpkin's ears hurt.  Fuzzy has a doc appointment tomorrow to get his pneumonia vaccine, and camp papers signed, so I am bringing Pumpkin with us to get checked.

Fuzzy also seems to be suffering from his allergies, although not as painfully.

Then, the surgeons office sent us the paperwork they wanted filled out.  The bad part is that it said, no CD's accepted instead of CT scan films.  My CT scan images were so many that it took TWO CD's to hold them all.  The technician at the film lab estimated that it would cost about $800 to print them all out.  That wasn't even including the MRI films.

Hubby embarked on a quest to get the doc's office to either accept the CD's or get the films directly, even though I haven't had the consultation yet, and they haven't accepted me as a patient.

It seemed too easy from the start.  This highly recommended neurosurgeon, is NOT in our insurance, but agreed to do the consultation and accept our co-pay, and his office said if he wants to do the surgery, they have ways to work with the insurance and would help us figure that out.

Then, this stuff.  The appointment is supposed to be Monday, and I am not sure at this point what is going to happen.  I may have to push back the appointment until the films are received.

I don't know.

I do know that I am grateful for Hubby taking the lead in fighting this out for me.

I think I will find out tomorrow.  It is... what it is.

be well,
Dawn
