My dear Fuzzy left this morning on his 6th grade Outdoor Education and Team Building Trip.
Of course, he is normally at school at this time of day anyway, but the house does already seem tooooo quiet!
Here is a picture of his usual goofing off self... He does the best 'fake kissing' because his arms are so long! lol
Yes, the house will be oh so quiet... too quiet!
I went on this exact trip, with this exact school, and with ONE of the exact teachers, 30 years ago when I was in 6th grade!
The only that has changed is that they go to a better camp that is YMCA affiliated now. The teacher that went with me back then, Mr. C, is retiring this year, so it is his last trip. I am glad that Fuzzy got to go with him there, though. :-)
This trip Fuzzy is on his own, in a way. Hubby and I have never NOT been in attendance on an overnight trip for him. He has always demanded that one of us be there, usually Daddy. That is how Hubby became an assistant scoutmaster!
However, with this trip, we guaranteed that Fuzzy would be in the cabin with his best friend's dad, and we stayed home. We are close friends with their family, and even went away with them on a cruise together a few years back.
I think it is time for him to be pushed from the nest a bit in that regard. Pumpkin has done Girl Scout sleepovers (as long as her leader, who we know well) without me or Hubby. But, she has a more determined independent streak than Fuzzy.
Fuzzy called me on his cell already, at 11:30 am to let me know that he arrived safely, that he is in the room with his best buddy and dad, and that the camp is beautiful. He was also very sweet and told me that he loved me and I shouldn't worry at all!
I will worry and I miss him already!
The good news is that worrying about him keeps my mind from other worries (read: brain thingy).
be well,
Dawn
ps... here is a pic of the lake I found online.

What a cool trip !! He will have a blast and probably forget that neither of his parents are there !! A little push sometimes is all they need.
hugs,
Ellen
Sounds like he will have a great time! But it is better than worrying about the other thing!

My daughter has always had that independent streak in her...ever since she was younger--that "no fear" atitude that drives me nuts--(she still has it..)--watch out for Pumpkin! Fuzzy is getting older.. :) Try not to worry-I'm sure he'll be just fine! Julie ;)
I've had my share of a quiet home since my 4 yr old went to pre-k..sometimes it's too quiet that I turned the tv on outloud.
Gem :-)
Oh man do I wish I was there...just found out yesterday they are recommending surgery for my back but I'm going to try something else first. I'll post on it tonight.

Oooh, looks nice! I'm so glad that we can hand our kids cell phones these days. Yes, you will still worry, but he'll have a great time. --Cin
Fuzzy will have a great time there! Your a mom, unfortunately there is no end to the worrying. I think it's awesome he is going with the same teacher you did, from the same school , to the same park! (Hugs) Indigo
Oh Dawn, at last, someone who aint inot all those bloody swirling pictures that appear on the blogs now........... Big kisses, Gaz
I hope he has a great time. Linda
That sounds really nice that your son got to go on a field trip. Thanks for sharing the picture. My son has a lot of silly humor at this age too... they are about the same age and both in 6th grade. Hugs,
Lisa : )
Enjoy the peace and quiet. But don't waste the time worrying about ANYTHING!
Its time for some 'Me' time, some 'Dawn' time... got it?
It's hard letting our kids grow. I bet he doesn't miss you guys as much as you are missing him. Hope he has a blast. Dawn

I haven't tried doing that fake hug/kiss thing since I was Fuzzy's age. I'd probably break something if I did it now. lol

It is hard watching our kids grow up. They do it so fast!! I know he will have a great time. :)
Hugs,
Gretchen
I remember this type of trip through the school, church, or Boy Scouts when I was a kid. We did a lot of this to "keep us busy" (and out of trouble). I wish I could do it all over. Regards, Bill.
Hope Fuzzy has a wonderful time. It was always hard for me when I was younger to do overnights. Growing up is a hard thing. Big Hugs, Chris
