Reminiscing

I decided to do another meme, which segues rather nicely into my update!

1) What I was doing ten years ago:
Ten years ago was 1997.  In October, Hammer would have been in kindergarten for one month, aged 5.  Fuzzy was 2 1/2, and Pumpkin was 8 months old.  I was tired all the time, and overwhelmed quite often, too!  A typical mom of 3 kids, aged 5 and under!  I would love to once a week, go to the local CVS and wander aimlessly around the store, before buying the one thing I came to get.  lol  I adore my kids, but that was probably the toughest year!

2.) Five years ago:
So now we're talking 2002, and I just FINALLY been diagnosed with the RA/Lupus thing.  I had started the methotrexate as the first line of treatment, and I did see immediate results!  Nothing like what used to be 'normal' but better than death warmed over.  It was a plus!  lol

I also would have been homeschooling Hammer for 2 years, Fuzzy would be in 2nd grade, and Pumpkin started kindergarten!  It was one of my favorite years overall!  The kids were all doing great, Hubby's job was doing great, and I had great hope for my health.  :-)

3) One year ago:  October of last year, was a good time!  The Orencia was still working,on my RA/Lupus, and the kids were all doing well.  In fact, we were just starting to realize how much Hammer loved Boy Scouts which was then, and since, been really fabulous!

4.) Yesterday: Busy 1/2 day off school, the kids had friends over, and Back to School night!

Join in and play if you can... it is a perfect lead in to updating your journal... see below!  LOL

Back to School Night was good, and very informative.  I got to meet the new principal, who like me, was a lifetime 'townie' and graduated from this very school.  And, as I hoped, he feels very personal driven to take care of the students and do right by them.  Yay!

I was able to meet and speak with all of Pumpkin's teachers, who I am happy to be seeing for Round 2, as they all had Fuzzy just two short years ago!  It was like seeing old friends!  I am thrilled with the 5th grade curriculum, and with the teachers.  This should be another excellent year for Pumpkin!

I was also able to make it to see Fuzzy's teachers.  I met his pre-algebra teacher (honors class), and Hubby and I actually had a long talk with him.  This is challenging material and a first in its actual presentation style.  Fuzzy now HAS to work at it, and it has been a bit daunting.  His honors Language Arts teacher had much praise for Fuzzy, but he does need to work at correcting his handwriting.  Ack.  It is a disaster.   The special subject teachers all had great compliments, too.

It was nice to see the renovations to the school.  I forgot to go downstairs and see the new lunch area and serving kitchens, but I think that I will be back there before I know it, and will check it out then.

Fuzzy has his first 7th and 8th grader dance this Friday night.  Should be interesting...  Last night, as a student ambassador, he went to school to be a guide to visiting parents.  He had to wear a shirt and tie.  He looked quite dashing, and got a lot of girlie attention!!!  lol

All the kids are with Hubby right now at Boy Scouts.

I am enjoying the quiet.  Hubby said I looked really run down and tired when he came home today, and I felt it.  You run around the school for 2 hours and copy one of your childs 6 hour days in that time.  Plus the speeches... foolishly, I sat on the bleachers and not in a chair.  Dumb.  Ugh.

I can't believe it is Wednesday already!  I am all messed up with the holiday Monday, then a half day yesterday... lol

be well,
Dawn

Liked that little walk down memory lane.  Glad the kids' Back to School night was fun!  You brought back some memories of when I was in elementary school.  I had the best music teacher!

It sounds like your evening at the school went well.  :)   I think most boys have that "bad" handwriting.  The thing that helped my son?  Drafting class!
My problem with this week is that I got up this morning thinking I had a 6:30 shift-oops, it's only Wednesday, the early one is Thursday.  At least I didn't make it all the way out to the car. LOL                            Smiles,  Leigh

Hi Dawn,
Oh, you're bringing back such nice memories of school.  Maybe everything seems better as the years go by, but I'd love to just walk around my old school to reminisce.  Of course, it's thousands of miles away so I'll just have to rely on my imagination, I guess.
Best,
Marty

I'm glad the back to school night went well. I dread going to those, but would not miss it for anything! I dont get the parents that never attend those things. I'm always surprised at the empty chairs I see.
I love that Meme - very cool to look back like that.
hugs,
Ellen

Love the meme IF I have time I'll do that one. You know me catch up on the weekend. Hope exciting a school dance those are always interesting. Be prepared not to come in.. you have to wait in the parent line outside by the curb. It's not cool for your parents to come in when the kids are dancing in the dark.
Take care, Chrissie

Hi Dawn...I started the MTX back in '98. for the Lupus/RA.  Now the Rheuy has me on a reserch program where in addition to mtx I get 2 injections every 2 weels.
The methotrexate alone hasn't seemed all that, but Rheuy wants me on it.  At least I haven't needed to be on prednisone in a long time.

This time of year, change of seasons, is when I have the most problems.
Hope you have a better weekend....I'm going to do the Meme...tonight or tomorrow.     ~Bethe~

Wow, interesting as I think back through years.  Hopefully, by this time next year, something will be working, and you'll feel better.  I do remember the days of school visits.  They grow up so fast.  HUGS  Chris
