This morning before school, Pumpkin was playing her handheld video game (nintendo ds, for those who know) and called out to me.
I heard, 'Mom, come look at this guy!', and I had just sat down for a little break, so I asked her to show it to me, thinking it was the Kirby video game 'guy' she wanted me to see.
'No, Mom the sky!!!', Pumpkin said.
Duh! I immediately got up to look with her, and found the most beautiful red, orange, and pink sunrise coming up in the east. Just gorgeous. We admired it for a minute, and then I told Pumpkin the old adage.
'Red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky at morning; sailors take warning!' It was particularly accurate because I had just read that we had a wind advisory for gusts 40 - 50 mph, and a rain storm coming through in the morning.
I went back to sit down, and finished my coffee. Soon, it was time to get ready, and I called Pumpkin to which she responded, 'In a minute, Mommy, you just don't see something like this everyday!'
I went back to her to look again at the red sky! It was gorgeous, and now wispy, cirrus, clouds were whipping across it, much like glowing galloping horses, refusing to be corralled.
You don't see something like that everyday, and we both just took it in, nature's morning show, just for us. It was wonderful.
I am so grateful for that moment, and the memory of it will inspire me on many mornings to come.
Happy Hump Day!
I hope you find some inspiration in your little world today. :-)
be well,
Dawn

Both live in NJ & we both love cats & coffee, there the similarity ends. I spent the morning looking over the stock exchanges going shi*, damn, oh hell. Never looked at the sky.My loss truly. I would have loved that. I think it's great for her age she is so interested in things like that. I picture a lot of kids not noticing. ~Mary
Dawn, what a perfectlly poetic moment to share with Pumpkin! I am enjoying your children along with you by reading your journaling. Believe me , that empty nest comes all too soon. Fortunately, you have the foresight to chronicle the events of your lives. One thinks you could never forget these precious moments, but as time passes, memories fade. Anyway, thanks for sharing yours with us.
also a very nice moment to share with your baby.
I have seen skies like that just gorgeous and what a moment to share. Thanks for letting me know I had a problem on my journal, I still can't get rid of the video even though I wiped out that journal entry. Any ideas? love, Sandi
I know just what you mean
I sat the other day and looked at teh orange and yellow leaves on my tulip trees for an hour.

I love seeing sunsets, but then my daughter reminds me that the sky is red because of pollution in the air..etc.. I don't want to know THAT! I don't want to believe that! Sigh.. I love sunsets. Simple moments are free and priceless--treasure them! Julie
Sounds gorgeous! the storm that accompanied it was hopefully fairly uneventful. We got tons and tons of rain and a bit of thunder and lightning.

And you know what else Dawn? It just shows how our children are so receptive to seeing the beauty in nature. They'll slow down to admire it and take time to marvel in what's going around them. Another good lesson for us adults to stop and smell the coffee!
Hugs from Minnesota
so neat you guys "stopped to smell the roses" and enjoyed the sky this morning!

Aw, too bad you didn't take a picture of it. I am not sure if I've even seen a pinkish orange sky except in photo's. Savor those small pleasures. Hugs Chris
