Ring of Fire

So, I get to the docs office for my blood work...

It isn't easy to get myself and the kids ready and out the door in an hour, with sore morning joints, which is why I usually drive them in pj's, but I did it.

The RN who is the certified phlebotomist (read: blood sucker) at the office, took me into the lab.

It took 4 needle sticks in 3 locations.

All the while I had to hear...

a)    how horrible my veins are to get blood (yeah, I know... I've owned them for a while now...)

b)    how I was ruining her day.  (wtf???)

Uh hello???  I do believe that is my arm that you have fileted for your three vials of blood, now bruising up to show every shade of purple, black, red etc, feels sore as hell, and thanks to my fair complexion, will be displaying these bruises for at least 2 weeks!!!!

Let's talk about ruined days... okay?!!  AND, I am fairly certain that she didn't feel a thing while she fished in my arm repeatedly for a vein!!!!  ACK!!!

 Yes, Kitty... I agree...

However, I did spare her life, kept a smile plastered on my face, from beginning to end, and made my appointment for the physical on 11/20.

I am proud of my restraint.

After all, I did NOT have my coffee yet!   She has no idea how close she came to me telling her off up one side of her perky little head and down the other.

Dang.

I deserve a medal.

Instead, I came home, took a nice nap, and put on a comfy shirt of my hubby's that I plan on snuggling in for the rest of the day.

In fact, I will be trying hard NOT to leave the house at all, because I am a bit cranky.

After all, I ruined someone's day.

Pffft!

be well,
Dawn

ps... read my last tag in blue...

update:  The RN thought she was being cute and funny... not, but I didn't let on.

HI, it feels like I've been gone forever instead of just the weekend.  I'm sorry that you had such a rough time with that phlebotomist(Vampire).  Maybe you should have borrowed one of her needles and stuck her every time she missed(evil grin).  And all that with no coffee, Hell Girl, you deserve more than a medal!   Hope the rest of your week goes better.

I would mention it to your doctor. The dimwit was unprofessional and unethical as well. The last time I had to have blood work done. The woman came to get me from the waiting area, rushed ahead of me talking the entire time. When she finally stopped I told her I was deaf, it was right there in front of the folder. She looked at Doc and said you tell her what I just said then. I lost it, I said in a quiet, calm voice, "No, you will tell me what you said, slow down and talk like a reasonable human being so I can read your lips. I'm deaf not dumb." She was taken aback but repeated what she had said. They make money off our pain. The least they can do is, do it with a smile and common courtesy. Sorry you had to deal with this woman. I really feel for you! Now I ask for someone else to take over when they can't get the needle in after the 2nd try & they are just stabbing at me!

Hi Dawn,
That RN needs a new "bedside manner."  Where's her sensitivity?!?  You're ruining her day?!?  Give me a break ...
Best,
Marty

I am proud of your restraint, I don't think I would have the same.  Nobody can ever get an IV in me.  I forewarn them of this everytime and tell them to put it at the inside of the elbow.  Inevitably I always get one who thinks they are "good" and can get it in my hand and it always come to me almost sticking the needle up her...nose and demanding she do it where I say.  Too bad you had to go through that and shame on your for ruining her day ;o
