Thankful Thursday - Friday Edition

Wow!  Has it really been a week and a day?  Yikes!

Well, this should cover the finer points of my absence and my blessings all in one fell swoop!

1.     Coffee.  There has been a lot of it consumed this week.

2.     My boys and Hubby came home!  And, there was much rejoicing. Yayyyy!  (for the Monty Python fans)  Truly, there was celebrating.  Then, laundry.  Putting away tents and gear.  Etc.

3.     Peroxide/Dawn Dishwashing liquid/Baking Soda Solution really does work to remove SKUNK odor.  (thanks, Mythbusters)

Yes, Libby (see sidebar for picture) got skunked.  At 4:45am on Tuesday morning.  Yep.  Hubby and I washed her with the solution, which only needed to be repeated once later in the day.

However, when Libby ran back into the house past my dad at 4:45am she ran onto her bedding & blankies (ruined) and smeared the smell all over our bedroom floor trying to remove it from herself.

Of course, that is the one part of the smell still slightly there.  Ugh.  Hard to get off the hardwood floor.

4.     I was granted patience rather than strength, therefore I didn't injure/maim/murder Hubby who decided to be quite obnoxious and mad at me (hello?) during the entire de-skunking operation.  ACK!

5.     Kids.  They were very helpful and patient with me this week while I struggled with a flare in my right hip/knee/ankle/foot.  They can be quite marvelous and giving.

6.     Hammer.  My laundry maniac.  Monday we sure did a lot of laundry.  Even a few loads throughout the week.  Thank you.  Your help going up and down the basement stairs is phenomenal.  In fact, invaluable.  I wouldn't be able to get it done without you with the RA/Lupus limitations.

7.     Hubby getting his head out of his butt.  Yes, he came around.

8.     Fuzzy, for being quite a trooper while having his glucose tested all week.  Not fun being pricked, but he understands that it is necessary.  A pattern is emerging and it is helpful, too.

9.     Pumpkin, for cleaning the bathroom and her room, prior to her friend Tiara spending the night last night, and oh yeah, she is spending the night tonight too.  I am too nice.  LOL

10.     All of you in J-Land.  Who missed me, love me, and support me, and who will understand if I don't get to your journals during weeks like this!  Thank you!

Well, I have rambled on a bit, quel surprise!  I hope you all have a marvelous weekend.

be well,
Dawn

Sounds like you sure did have a challenging week, but I am sure it is tempered by having the family home again :o)

Baking Soda really does work small miracles. I've found it also takes the onion smell out of your hands if you make it into a paste and wash your hands with it. Poor Libby and you having to clean up after her. Sorry to hear you had to deal with a flare up this week. Sounds like the kids have been great helping out. Have a great weekend dear friend. A skunk? That can't have been nice, hope you get rid of the smell for good, and soon

Libby got skunked....ugh.  We watch Mythbusters but I missed the one with the "skunk" juice removal.  I didn't realize it would penetrate a hardwood floor.  Hope you start to feel better.  Hugs Chris

Ugh, skunked! Thanks for sharing the recipe to deskunk pets. I had heard that tomatoe juice works wonders. did you come across that one? When Max and Misty were alive, I always used a homemade recipe shampoo, given to me by the vet. It was one part white vinegar, 1 part clear Ivory dish shoap, adn 1 part glycerin. The glycerin was the most expensive ingredient, but I made it faithfully for thirteen years. It took out every odor they ever came home with. But I never knew them to encounter a skunk... however they loved to roll in dead things, so I know the recipe I used took care of those kinds of smells. I guarantee it works. bea

I see we both had a Friday edition of the thankfuls.  What a week it sounds like.  Don't you love when overtired hubbies make things out to be someone elses fault?!  Oh my word.  Been there.
I'm praying for Fuzzy.  Checking glucose is NOT a good thing!

This sounds like some new weirdo reality show. 'You've been skunked', at least it was the dog and not hub ;-)

You certainly have had yourself quite a week.  Glad that things are on an even keel.  I did not know that about the Peroxide/Dawn/Baking Soda.  We have some PePe LePew's (sp) in our neighborhood.  That may come in handy.
                                                              Have a great week,  Leigh

Hi Dawn,
Just curious, does your hubby read your blog?  I'm sure it's gratifying to know he's mentioned in your Thankful Thursdays but -- hmmm -- you're thankful that he got his head out of his butt.  It might be sort of a stretch to take that as a complete compliment ...
Best,
Marty

Glad you got the dog de-skunked, and I hope the smell is all gone now.  Phew!  Very good thankfuls.  I'm glad your kids help you out so much when your RA is acting up.  Sounds like Hammar was a special hero this week!
