Another Brick in the Wall

No, kitty, there was no snow day today, because the snow didn't show. :(

And, from the moment I woke the kids this morning, it was all downhill from there.  Overtired, cranky, ornery kids, who decided to give me hell and fight me for an hour.

It got to the point where I was feeling sick, exhausted and ready to scream, so I gave up.  I called them in sick.

Now, they are punished.  Fuzzy and Pumpkin are grounded all week, 'unplugged'.  That means no computer, no handheld video games, no console video games.

New rules have been instituted for bed times throughout the end of the school year, and early wake-ups for weekend mornings, in order to keep them both on 'ready for school' schedule.

Yep, they shot themselves in the foot big time.  And, this is a milder version of the original punishment and plans that their Dad had for them.

Hammer is not included in the punishments or restrictions as he never, ever, has pulled this difficulty.  Not with school when he did attend, or with homeschooling.

Ugh.  Not a fun day at all.  No one said parenting was easy or fun all the time!  Nope, more like nailing jello to a tree.  <sigh>

However, it is now behind us and we are all moving forward.

My dad and I went to finalize our kitchen plans with Lowe's and get our estimate from them today.  It was more expensive than we hoped/guessed, but not outrageously so.  We are waiting on another estimate also.

That was the best part of my day!  LOL  I really enjoyed picking out the cabinet and countertop styles and colors!

Tomorrow will be a busy day.  I have two doctor appointments for Hammer.  First for his maintenance appointment at the Asperger's center, and then with the orthodontist.

Pumpkin has piano lessons tomorrow, and will have homework and make-up work to do.  Fuzzy will also have much work to do afterschool.

Here's to better days for the rest of the week!

I am still so thrilled about the Giants making it to the NFC Championship Game!  Yay!

be well,
Dawn

My hubby does mornings so much easier it seems, there is never any difficulty when he does it, but alas when he does I oversleep and I get VERY cranky...and that makes NO ONE happy.

Grouchy mornings wouldn't fly well with me. Skye used to try to pull that stunt and go so far as not say a word to me, even when she was questioned. I did the same thing no computer, no phone, no ipod until you learn to speak in a reasonable tone when spoken too. I think kids tend to think we forget about things and from time to time test us to see how far they can get , before they pushed our buttons. It's snowing here now, not enough to call it a snow day though. Stay safe and loved , tell the kids I said by nice to their mother, she's a great friend. (Hugs) Indigo

Yes raising kids is so much fun sometimes!  I have a magnet on my fridge that says "raising kids is like being pecked to death by chickens!"  But thank goodness the good does outweigh the bad.  Linda

I'm sorry the kids didn't get that snow day they were wanting.  I like your punishment!  VERY creative, and I'll bet it'll be effective, too.  I hope the rest of your week goes better.

They can't be angels all the time, can they?  Sorry about the no-show-snow.  I think I remember that you were looking forward to some snow yourself.   Hang in there kiddo, it's gonna be a loonnnggg week.

I always felt I was like the Mortar that held the bricks together and if you think of the shape that has to take to fit round those bricks, you get some idea of the hoops we have to jump through to keep a family going.

I wanted more snow yesterday than we got and a snow day would be so nice... but then it would probably screw up their sleep schedule here too.  We are hoping for a few nights of getting back into a normal schedule with bedtimes over here too for the rest of the year.  It is hard to be the parents but we gotta do it.  You are doing a great job!

Hi Dawn,
I'll bet you felt as badly as the kids did when you had to punish them but, with any luck, they'll learn the lesson.
Best,
Marty

Parenting is just never that easy...........but I have to say that when I do call my youngest out for the day it's usualy for something fun for us both.  My two daughters Needy (24) and Greedy (18) are never a fuss in the morning, I blackmail them with the smell of someting frying in the pan.....it's an old trick mamma use to do to us.  My two LOVE breakfast and the best way to get them down the stairs is with FOOD.
Have a simple and God blessed day, and I love the blog.

LOL...when I "unplugged" my kids, it was the tv only.  We didn't have our first pc until 1995 so my baby was 9, Joey 12 and Becky 14.  Good luck with your kitchen....I'm going to redo mine eventually.  That's so exciting.  HUGS  Chris
