Anchors Away or is it Aweigh?

Here are the pictures from the museum for the USS Salamonie, the ship that my dad served on from 1958 until 1961.

The ship was an oil tanker, and provided fuel to destroyers and aircraft carriers.  It served the USS Forrestal, USS Shangrila, and the USS Little Rock, to name a few.

The ship was named after a river in Indiana, only about 45 minutes from where we were staying.

The town is small and sweet, with only one traffic light!  The town clerk, who serves on the museum board, arranged for the museum to be opened up, just for us.

It was a wonderful experience!

be well,
Dawn

I would love to visit that museum!
My Dad served on an oil tanker, too, but it was during WWII.  He served on the USS Tappahannock.

Wonderful pictures!  I love the sailor white uniforms... to this day I remember when nautical was really big in fashion ... I think it is one of those classic fashions that keeps going in and out.  I think it should always be in.  Hugs,
