Diagnosis and a Sick Day

Hubby had his CT scan yesterday.  Just got the results.  It is diverticulitis.  We thought it couldn't be that because he had no fever, but, no sac of infection has formed yet in the pocket, so that is good news I guess.

Hubby will start Cipro antibiotic and another medicine Flagyl.  He cannot eat ANY solids, clear broth/liquid ONLY from now until Friday, when he returns to the doc.  He is to go to the hospital if he begins to feel worse in any way.

Of course, he is not happy about the food restrictions, but he is NOT a complete idiot, and will follow them.  As of right now, he is at work, and the doc said it is okay, if he takes it slow and doesn't push.  Hmmm, we'll see.

Doc told him his favorite Shop Rite brand of iced tea is okay to drink, so he will live on that, Swanson chicken broth and jello.

Wish me luck, I think Hubby will be cranky.  Have I mentioned that he is 6'3", with 54" shoulders and about 300 lbs?  He need to get back down around 280, but this is NOT a fun way of doing it!!

This man gets cranky when he skips one meal!  Yikes!  LOL

As for the sick day, that is what the kids are having.  Fuzzy and Pumpkin.

Pumpkin had herself worked up into a frenzy last night over a fitness test in gym that she felt she would not do well because she hurt her leg.

Fuzzy has a scratchy throat from the weather changing that is Spring... typical allergy stuff.

Mostly, it is a mental health day.  And, 'Mommy is a sucker day'... but that is alright, everyone needs one of those occasionally!

be well,
Dawn

Jello..  I hope your husband likes jello!  Mine hates it with a passion.  I am glad he is able to be at work--better for the both of you.  He can work, and you can have some time away from his cranky self!  Take care!  Julie :)

Good luck to hubby with the div. It's not nice, and I hope the antibiotics do the trick. NO ALCOHOL AT ALL. Not even on the skin.

You need an escape you can always email me and scream LOL!! I know when Doc gets sick and can't eat, I seriously wish for an escape. He's worse than an infant, he wont move and sits and moans and groans. LOL guess I don't need to tell ya what your in for. (Hugs) Indigo

Sorry to hear about the diverticulitis. I don't blame him if he is cranky...I don't like jello and living on broth is not pleasant either. I hope you both have some good books ready to read so you can all just chill for the rest of the week.--Cin

I am glad the dignosis was no worse.  I have a friend who is prone to this but as long as she watches her diet she doesn't have episodes  I believe she said it was  hard for her to eat enough fiber.  Good luck to your husband on a fast recovery.   Gerry

Oy, not a fun diagnosis for someone who likes to eat.  My brother has that but pays no attention to the diet then wonders why he's miserable.  Hope he gets it under control.  HUGS Chris

I was first dx'd with diverticulitis problems in 1997.  If I am careful about getting the right amount of fiber (not during a flare-up -- clear liquids are the thing then), then I don't get sick with it much any more.  Metamucil to the rescue lol.  I call it my Elixir of Life lol.
loving you

Just tell hubby that Friday isn't really all the far away.  Jello has some pretty fun flavors -- maybe you could make him some new ones he hasn't tried.

I'm a big believer in mental health days.  School is so stressful these days and honestly if I ever have children I will give them, if they have good attendence, at least one day off if they are feeling too stressed out.  I think it's important to help children de-stress and sometimes if I had,had that oppurtunity I wouldn't have hated school so much! -Dawn-

There is a J-lander here that has that condition (do you read her? - Lisajo - Srcreenname , Queeniemart) She was hospitalized last June for that.
I am glad it's caught early and he can get on the medicine right away.
Good luck !

Ellen

I hope your kids feel better....yes we all need a mental health day from time to time :)
Prayers for your hubby...it's not easy following restrictions but this is something he has to do. I hope he doesn't get too cranky for you!
