(Like a) Bat Out of Hell

So, I did it.

The playroom is cleaned and organized.  The karaoke machine?  Gone.  The box of extra junk?  Some gone, some put away.  The ski overalls Hubby ordered the boys back in February?  Hubby put them in the basement with the camping items.

You can now walk into the room and access the book cases EASILY.  No 'stuff' in the way.  The toys that remain for when J comes up with Kathy, are in two crates.  There is another crate full of Star Wars miniatures, all organized nice for Fuzzy, Hammer, and friends.  Pumpkin's Magnetix also stored nicely. Yay!

I couldn't stop at just the playroom.  I decided to go upstairs... to the kids rooms.

Hey, why not, in for a penny, in for a pound.

The boys room has stayed really well since we did the big reorganization, lowering their beds and whatnot.  I just made their beds, removed a blanket that they didn't need, and then straightened out and organized their tee shirt drawers, and emptied their garbage can.

Then, I went to Pumpkin's room.

The same room, that just yesterday, she looked me dead in the eye and said, 'My room is clean!!!!', emphasis hers.

Here is what I found on the floor under and alongside Pumpkin's bed.

15 loose socks.  3 actual pairs, the rest all singles.

2 Slurpee cups, all nice and sticky.

8 water bottles, in various states of emptiness (2 water bottles were actually in the overflowing garbage pail)

20 odd books

Various miscellaneous, papers, wrappers (cookies, candy) and pencils and crayons.

Many stuffed animals.

You can all rest assured, since coming home from school today, Pumpkin is now CLEAR as to what Mommy's CLEAN requirements are for her room.

Oh yes... a new sheriff is in town.  And, all of them, including Hubby, have been informed that from now on, everyone is going to maintain their fair share better.

In fact the kids have been assigned rooms that at bedtime they have to check for items that need to be thrown out and/or put away.  They are going to be required to make sure their bedroom in clean EVERY day, instead of once a week.  Especially, Pumpkin!

I am going to be doing spot checks more often, too.  With their bedrooms upstairs, and with Hubby doing the bedtime routine each night, it can get out of hand, since I don't get upstairs to see it.  Now, I will.

As for the state of my body after this cleaning mania, I am sore.  I will be cursing being on my knees on the hardwood in Pumpkin's room for so long.  And, somehow, I did something to aggravate my hip.  So, I took a 1/2 of a vicodin, and it did help.

Usually, I push myself not to take any until after dinner, but I didn't today.  Tomorrow, I plan on taking on the garage mud room area where we hang up our coats, and keep our shoes, etc.

Wish me luck!  LOL

I will try to be back later with a meme!

be well,
Dawn

Oh Dawn, you sound exactly like me now and I am really mean about keeping my kids on their toes with their rooms.  Sometimes even that isn't enough.  I do spot checks too now and no one is allowed to do anything usually til their rooms are clean... but they are tricky and try to lie to me about it too all the time.  Grrrrrr.  I so feel for ya!!!  It is a mother's heart ache to keep the kids doing their fair share and keeping the bedrooms clean.
Hugs,
Lisa

I always love what I find when cleaning my kids' rooms! I'm always exclaiming "So this is where it went!"

Yes, it is true, housework done right can kill.  My Aunt Nethella was that kind of housekeeper as those she hired to work for her could testify, why we called her "weedkiller," and "lawngrass."  She had the biggest lawn in town and it always had to be mowed.  But I always thought she had no time to smell the roses she was so busy mulching and weeding.  Surely there must be a happy medium in there somewhere between sloth and sparkle!  Gerry http://journals.aol.com/gehi6/daughters-of-the-shadow-men/

Wow I could really use your organization skills over here...hint, hint, lol! Don't over do it though.
Pumpkin sounds like Justin when it comes to room cleaning.

I love that song by Meatloaf. Sounds like you overdid it kiddo. What the heck is with the water bottles in various degrees of empty? I ask because my 19 year old still does it. I asked her the other day if she thought aliens might be coming (Remember the little girl leaving water glasses all over in the movie "Signs" with Mel Gibbson?). The thing that gets me is it's water, it's not going to go bad like soda lose the carbonation........you can drink it cold, or lukewarm. So what gives? LOL. (Hugs) Indigo
